What to See
Ngapali Beach
Located on the Rakhine coast and known as the "Naples of the East", supposed to have been named after by Italians who had been there during the first Angelo-Burmese war, Ngapali is one of the beautiful beaches in Myanmar. This unspoiled beach streatching over 3 km with blue sea, white sand and swaying palm trees is 35 minutes' flight from Yangon. By overland, 14 hours' drive along the narrow winding road over the Rakhine Yoma after crossing the Ayeyarwaddy River at Pyay (Prome). There is an 18-hole golf course about 15 minutes' drive from the beach. A wide choice of hotels from first-class Bay View Hotel and Sandoway Beach Resort to standard Ngapali Beach, and Silver Beach.
Chaungtha Beach
Chaung-tha beach is located 40 km to the west of Pathein (Bassein) in Ayeyawaddy Division, is the jump-off point for the Southern beach resort. Chaungtha is beautiful beach in Myanmar, like Ngapali beach. There are no air links between Yangon and Chaungtha. It is a very convenient drive from Yangon via Pathein taking about 5 hours. There are bungalow type hotels along the beach with modern facilities. Chaung-tha is a relatively new resort. The long, unspoilt and almost deserted beach of purest white sand and crystal-clear blue water is one of the most beautiful sports in the world.
Kan Thaya Beach
Located 290 km from Yangon near Gwa on the Rakhine Coast, Kan Thaya Beach is accessible by an 8 hour drive from Yangon over forested mountain road.
Ngwe Saung Beach
Ngwe Hsaung, Myanmar's latest beach resort has the longest shore 9 miles. It is also located just 29 miles from Pathein in the Ayeyawaddy Division. This unspoil beach stretches 15 km of white sand and blue sea. You can visit small fishing villages and local markets, explore the countryside by bicycle or enjoy a boat trip to the magnificent offshore islands. There are newly constructed bunglows with local flavour but equipped with modern facilities. Fringed with palm trees, all hotels face the beach.
